Amina Sutton is a Filmmaker based in Brooklyn, New York.

Born in Harlem, NYC, and raised in New Jersey, Amina has always been drawn to stories that spotlight rebels, outcasts, and subcultures. Through playful, satirical humor, her films explore sociocultural and political tensions. Her career began in Boston, Massachusetts, where she produced live comedy shows. She earned a BFA in Graphic Design from Boston University and an MFA in Screenwriting from Royal Holloway, University of London, before relocating to New York.

In 2020, she wrote, starred in, co-produced, and co-directed the short film The Price of Cheap Rent, which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film received the Outstanding Directing Award at the TIDE Film Festival and won the People’s Choice Award at the 2021 Standing Rock Film Festival. In 2022, she directed two episodes of the web series Under the Influencer for the streaming platform Kold Open.

Her film Beach Floaty Thingys (2024) received support from the Adrienne Shelly Foundation, Rooftop Films, and the Women’s Film Finishing Fund through the New York Foundation for the Arts. She is an active member of the Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective.
